Over the last several months, the largest technological giants such as Meta, Microsoft, Amazon and Epic Games have mentioned Metaverse all the time, which is - as it is popularly called - "the new version of the Internet". At the same time, the NFT craze began in the same period, with many companies associating the success of the Metaverse with "non-exchangeable tokens". This is a big mistake with negative consequences for the future of the digital world.
We have translated in our columns many times about what NFT is and what it is all about digital works of art combined with blockchain, a technology previously associated with cryptocurrencies, in our pages. here, where Bartek Sieja did it in the easiest possible way. It is much more difficult to define the Metaverse, because the people who are currently working on the development of this concept do not know what exactly it is supposed to be. Is it about the already mentioned "new version of the Internet", cyberspace straight from the cyberpunk visions created by William Gibson in the series of novels entitled "The Trilogy of the Sequence" or something else related to the new way of functioning and interacting with objects and people?
There are many concepts about what the Metaverse will be People involved in work or promotion of this concept probably have different opinions on this subject. Natalia Hatalska, founder of the infuture institute, an institute that studies what the future will look like, and author of the book "Age of Paradoxes. Will Technology Save Us?" If we look at the history of the Internet, we digitize each of the various stages of our reality. As the web as we know it began to spread, we first digitized the information. Then social media came in and we digitized relationships. Now we are in the third stage, the so-called the internet of things (digital twins), where we digitize every physical object - things have their counterparts in the digital world. We are heading towards the Internet of the senses, which is said to be available to us from 2030. Thanks to it, we will be able to smell or taste via the Internet. The last - at least according to the current assumptions related to our lives - will be the digitization of thoughts and feelings. These are all the solutions in the field of neurotechnology mentioned, among others, by Elon Musk (it's about neuralink - editorial note).
She then added that Metaverse will not be any game or virtual reality in which we will meet with character models representing our friends, as Mark Zukcerberg suggested during a special conference, where the company's branding was also changed (Facebook was replaced with Meta). While the vision itself sounds convincing, it is hard to imagine right now, and even more complicated is the process of creating the Metaverse and what allows us to move into it or interact with it. If the idea is to work out, the whole thing must be comfortable, easy to use and - most of all attractive for the user (e.g. something that will make life easier or will be related to entertainment) - to encourage you to try entering the Metaverse.
