UK-born Lickd, which provides claims-free commercial music for creators, has inked an exclusive deal with Vegas City, a virtual district within the metaverse-based 3D world Decentraland. The 24-month partnership will see Lickd provide commercial music to Vegas City’s partners and ‘tenants’, who will be able to buy virtual land on the platform through blockchain-based purchases.
Lickd says that it will supply curated playlists and genre specific ‘radio channels’ into Vegas City’s music player, which plays background music in venues and public spaces throughout the district and Decentraland. Through this partnership, says Lickd, all venues within Vegas City will be able to access commercial music in the metaverse.
Lickd bills itself as a provider of pre-cleared music licensing for social video creators, and provides music from indie and major labels for licensed use in YouTube and other UGC videos. Over the past two years, the company has entered into partnerships with the likes of Warner Music Group (in August 2020) and Empire (in October 2020).
